This privacy policy will explain how Surrey Eating Disorder Recovery uses the personal data we collect from you when you contact us or use our services.

  • Any information you may give us about your personal circumstances and medical history

  • Any names and/or contact details that you give us of other professionals involved in your care

Your data may be given to us by you, by a third party, or gathered automatically.

Data that is given to us

SEDR will collect your data when you contact us via the phone, email, through the website, and when you complete the “Client Contact Details” form.

Additional information will be gathered at your assessment appointment and during ongoing therapy.

If you are referred by a family member or health care professional, we may receive personal information indirectly.

Data that is collected automatically

Data may be collected automatically if you access the website in the following ways:

  1. Information such as your IP address, the date, times and frequency with which you access the website and the way in which you use the content. This information is used to help us make improvements to website content and navigation

  2. Data will be collected automatically via cookies, in line with the cookie settings on your browser. For more information about cookies, and how we use them on the website, see our “Cookie Policy”.

How we use the data collected

Any or all of the above data may be required by us from time to time in order to provide you with the best possible service and treatment. Specifically, data may be used by us for the following reasons:

  1. to offer high quality, ongoing care

  2. to contact you regarding appointments, therapy resources or invoicing

in accordance with this privacy policy.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

Who we share data with

We may share your data with the following groups of people for the following reasons:

  1. medical or psychological therapy practitioners for the purposes of furthering a contract between us and you for the provision of psychological therapy

  2. other third parties subject to your consent

No details of your therapy will appear in your medical records without your permission. Any information that we keep will only be shared if your psychologist is concerned about your safety or the safety of others. In this instance, we have a duty of care to keep you safe and therefore your psychologist may contact your GP, another mental health professional or the person you provide as your emergency contact. Your psychologist will always aim to discuss this with you first wherever possible.

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored electronically, using a secure clinical notes system which is GDPR compliant.

Due to the legal requirement to keep medical notes for a period of time after treatment, we keep personal contact details and medical notes for a minimum of 7 years after the end of treatment. Your details will be destroyed after this period.

Even if we delete your data, it may persist in backup or archival form for legal, tax or regulatory purposes.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

  • Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
